Come On In The Room: A simple Soliloquy (SO-LIL-OH-KWEE)
Welcome, welcome! please come in! Sit anywhere you’d like and get comfortable. I’d like to take you on a short trip… you won’t have to move your feet, just imagine with me for a few moments. Take a look at your surroundings, notice who is here in the room with you, notice who isn’t here; now, what would it be like to say exactly what is on your mind? Could you do it? Maybe it’s not too hard because, maybe you’re just hungry and so you’d simply say “I’m hungry”. Keep imagining; what would it be like to elaborate on what your thinking, and feeling? Could you say those things out loud? It might be something like: “I’m hungry and I want to eat something good but I don’t have any more money in my eating out budget, so I might borrow from my savings but that might set me back on my goals and I won’t be able to move out of my parent’s house, but I’m hungry so it might be worth it…”. Okay come back to the room, you’re here, the others who are or are not here with you are where they are and who they are, what would it be like to say exactly how you are feeling and what you are thinking elaborately out loud right now?
If you were to do it, regardless of who might hear, solely for the purpose of sharing your truth, you would be in Soliloquy.
Soliloquy is not really technically something you can be “in”. But in the room, you can, you can be “in” Soliloquy.
You can keep imagining what it might be like for you in Soliloquy as we continue this discussion!
A soliloquy is a tool typically used in theater and literature where a character speaks her or his thoughts and feelings aloud regardless of any hearers solely for the purpose of narrating their experience for the audience. Other characters don’t usually react and when the Soliloquy ends things return to normal as if it never happened.
Soliloquy can be a powerful tool for us to use in our everyday lives as well, there is power in stating your truth regardless of the opinions and attitudes of others. There is power in unabashed honesty about who you are and how you are at any given moment.
So maybe you’re wondering why I’ve invited you here, to this particular room. This is the Simple Soliloquy. It is a space where topics can be explored and discussed unfiltered and shamelessly.
There are no judgments, no expectations, and no limitations to the topics discussed in the room.
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments and if you’re feeling brave maybe share a snippet of your Soliloquy! (No Pressure)
Again, I say welcome!
